Oops, Bambi's email reminded me of another tip.
In your sql script, put "exit" at the end. In my environment, without that
the script doesn't die, but just keeps filling up the log file. Then the sys
admin comes to visit.

Erik - I couldn't live without nohup. I would recommend you issue your
command in the form:

nohup sqlplus un/pw @script.sql > file.out 2>&1 &

This will nohup it in case you get knocked off.
Both the standard output and standard error will be sent to "file.out".
In you SQL script you may want to "set echo on" so you get each command
echoed.

One issue to consider is that in some Unix environments all parameters are
visible to anyone that does a "ps". If that is a concern, and you don't
already have a solution in your environment, there are some well-tested
solutions.

I am going to be executing a long running job this weekend from home. I am
going to VPN into the corp network and telnet to the server. I am affraid of
loosing my telnet terminal session and the job dying mid way through. The
plan is to use 'nohup sqlplus system/***** @long_running.sql'. Has anyone
used this or run into issues using it? Every time I assume something will
'just work', IT DOESNT!

Thanks
Erik
