I don't see why not. Prior to RMAN I used a procedure documented in Oracle
Magazine called database cloning that used hot backups and archived logs. I
have a white paper on it if you're interested. I'm sure RMAN has the same
capability.

I need to duplicate online database Oracle 8.1.7.
It is not possible to shutdown the primary database.
Can I do online backup this primary database by RMAN,
and + using archivelogs create duplicate database?
