You got real lucky to have a database you could even start.

Unfortunately I found one of my database need a recovery back on time without a legal backup. There where only the disks backup. So I tried, I had nothing to lose. And it worked. Not documented, not recommended, but it worked. Of course, now this database is backup :)

Are you suggesting that it is OK to copy an open database without using hot backup mode, as long as there isn't a log switch during copy?
Do you use this method at your place of employment?
