Hello,

Thank you for your suggestions.

We have very tiny resources, so I hope that my answers below are not
too conservative!

* Beep at boot stage:
0.6 alpha relied on syslinux at boot stage. Indeed, no solution was
  available for the beep.

Besides it, at boot time, the drive motor stops during the 30 seconds
delay. This kind of audio feedback was helpful for some users.

* Sound at the initialization stage:
Indeed, Speakup has been designed for getting audio feedback very
early using an external voice synthesizer. (http://www.speakup.org)

The whole displayed document could be said automatically.

Concerning the speech rate: it was slower with 0.6 alpha. Yes, we have
to propose very early (probably in the audio menu) a configurable
speech rate.

Do you envision Dragon Naturally Speaking using Wine?

This is very interesting. I guess there could be common features with the
future Oralux 2.0.

Generaly speaking, if there is already an available TTS, then it can be
possible to add a new language to Multispeech.
Most of its sources are in C++.
The TTS and the audio player are launched through script shells.

Igor B. Poretsky proposes Multispeech, Ru_tts, Enlex and more at:
ftp://ftp.rakurs.spb.ru/pub/Goga/projects/

I am not aware of any TTS for Dutch at the moment, sorry.

Freebsoft proposes Festival in Czech, Speech Dispatcher, Speechd-el
and more:
www.freebsoft.org

Festival in Czech could lead to Speakup in Czech in the current CD.

Freebsoft proposes Speechd-el for a talking Emacs.

There is no available bridge between Emacspeak and Speech Dispatcher
at the moment.

Best wishes,

Gilles

A+

Gilles
