I agree. Would you mind filing a bug?

I see, thanks for the info. I have to say that I still think that msgctx should
be used for disambiguation, but the .po format is not exactly a standard and
has a lots of different implementations. GNU's docs on gettext are incomplete
at best.

Thanks!

Uhm, I don't see any msgctx line... Are you referring to #: comments (which are
the only thing that changes)?

Subject: Localization Files Question

Hi there,
I've not been very active here. Just to give a bit of background, my company
builds a platform for localizing software. One of our users wanted to help
translating Orchard to Farsi (fa-IR) using our platform.

Our .po codec encountered duplicate msgids in the orchard.core.po file and gave
up. That is the expected behavior as far as we're concerned, and I personally
verified that there are duplicate msgids in the file (e.g. "The Orchard Team"
or "Ascending" and many others - full list is below). So the question is, are
those entries supposed to be duplicated, or was it a mistake on your side?

To go into further detail, as far as we know, .po files should *not* contain
duplicate msgids unless they're disambiguated with msgctx tags, but at this
point given the large number of duplicate entries I'm starting to challenge our
assumption.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Thanks everyone!

File 'Core/App_Data/Localization/fa-IR/orchard.core.pot' contains duplicate
keys: 'The Orchard Team';
'http://orchardproject.net<http://orchardproject.net/>'; 'Date Created';
'Delete'; 'Navigation'; 'Reports'; 'Default Page Size'; 'Show paging controls';
'Order by'; 'Date Published'; 'Title'; 'Slug'; 'Custom 1'; 'Custom 2'; 'Custom
3'; 'Ascending'; 'Descending'; 'Cannot edit content'; 'Edit'; 'View'; ' | ';
'Create New Content'; 'Publish Now'; 'Unpublish'; 'Settings'; 'General';
'Dashboard'; 'Position'; 'Menu text'; 'This is a table of the reports in your
application'; 'Date'; 'Add'; 'Save'; 'Invalid user name'; 'Owner'
