The temperature ibutton http://www.ibutton.com/ibuttons/index.html seem to sell individual parts with a temperature ibutton sensor starting at $2.23. I haven't investigated this very far, but a few years ago was told about them by a fellow bicyclist who like to monitor temperatures on his rides. I am not that fanatical.
