"Private landowners in the Prairie Coteau region of South Dakota... have
been awarded grant funds to undertake conservation projects for endangered,
threatened and other at-risk species.

Acting Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Matt Hogan said
$6.9 million is going to landowners in 35 states.

The Nature Conservancy will receive $171,000 to initiate a program to
restore tallgrass prairie over a large landscape through the use of
prescribed burning and patch grazing. The techniques mimic historic
processes that shaped the tallgrass prairie landscape and will restore
habitat for numerous species of state and federal concern, including ...
prairie white-fringed orchid [Platanthera leucophaea ?]
and
small white lady's slipper [Cypripedium candidum]."
