I have had an interested in dry rest plants for quite a few years. About 1.5 years ago I put together a talk called Give It a Rest for the Orchid Digest Speakers' Day. It is not an easy topic, there are so many variables, not only in nature and from species to species, but from one clone to another and from one greenhouse to another.
The best references for me are undoubtedly Margaret & Charlie Baker's work. Their books have been mentioned here, but they also have a website where you can pick and choose which species you want to find out about. Try looking at http://orchidculture.com/. There are some sample sheets you can view for free and the others are $1.00 or less per species. A pretty good bargain to be a better grower. I have given this talk a number of times in the last year and a half and I am usually asked for a list which I haven't had. This seems like a good time to do it. I will sit down in the next week or so and list many of the plants that I think benefit from a dry rest and post a note here when it is ready.
