I use Meetup extensively, what exactly is spammy? In theory one is going to meet people attending an event, so the system telling me isn't exactly counterproductive, and if one doesn't wants others to know then one can just use a pseudonym and not publish pictures.
Or am I missing the point entirely? I use to organize a book club and as soon as we used Meetup the think took off, when we stopped the group came to a standstill. Or am I missing entirely the point?
