Also mostly for fun, I´ll dare promote this short german clip, which deals with structural origami (starting around 6:50), the pictures do tell quite a bit of the story. http://www.prosieben.de/tv/galileo/videos/clip/2121517-origami-extrem-1.3496695/ A miura pattern is a good starting point in any case. Of course the kind of paper you use is a major factor with regard to mechanical performance (the stuff in the video is made from aramide - a.k.a. Kevlar - paper).
