[Origami] Why is it that a closed back model is more difficult to design than an open back one?

Hi

I remember reading somewhere that more origami models are open back because
some design issue but I went back to my ODS book (which is where I think I
saw that information) and couldn't find the explanation. So would anyone
please enlight me?
