No need.  We're in agreement; you're (correctly) being crisper in your
wording.  All along, I was thinking of checking if ntp was synching with
a higher-level stratum.

We can get the compute nodes to synch to the head node, even if it can't
synch higher up, this was the "I now forget the specifics" comment I
made earlier in this thread.
