My $0.02 would be to check to see if that option is available, and only
then do we use it.

But as I have been telling DongInn, OSCAR 5.0 will hopefully be the last
release which supports 2.4 kernel, as we will be moving to RHEL5 and
dropping RHEL3 in our next release, in which case all supported Linux
distributions should be based off 2.6 kernels.
