I think I figured out where the MPICH cruft came from. Yesterday, I quit the
GUI before building the client image, and then I started it up again with the
"install_cluster" command, rather than running scripts/oscar_wizard. Every
time you run install_cluster, it apparently repopulates the server package list
with the default set, including MPICH. Even though it wasn't installed, I am
willing to bet this is where it came from. I tested this today, and running
install_cluster the second time rechecked MPICH, among other things I had
deselected.

I did a vanilla CentOS installation on the box, and immediately installed
OSCAR, deselecting MPICH from the packages list in the early steps. There was
never any time that MPICH was installed on the system, so there should be no
reason for /opt/mpich-* to exist. In /opt, there are no mpich directories,
either.

Hi all,
The MPICH configuration script is looking for the file
/opt/mpich-ch_p4-gcc-1.2.7/share/machines.LINUX, which, i guess, is created
when installing the RPM. By any chance, do you know if that file has been
deleted at some point? or maybe the file is for some reason read only or
something like that?
