Justin-
OSCAR already handles user account synchronization by syncing the passwd and group files, etc. NIS shouldn't be necessary unless you have to integrate it into an existing environment. We're working on incorporating such a feature into OSCAR soon.

What is the recommended way to handle user accounts?

Ideally, I would like to make my Master node a NIS slave server in my
current NIS domain, but I've been running into many problems just making it
a client. I have not been able to override NIS attributes (specifically,
home directory and shell). If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Due to a serious time crunch, I can't afford to fight with it any longer,
so now I'm wondering if I should just create a new NIS domain only for the
cluster (Master node = NIS master and all calculation nodes = NIS clients).

What is recommended by Oscar?

Best Regards,

~Justin
