Using the pbs_oscar alias on clients works fine, except for one of the two entries in the mom's config file. So it's reconfigured to be the actual hostname of the server during the post_install (step 7). Since I was subsituting one instance of pbs_oscar in the mom config files, I just did them both while I was at it.
I am pretty sure of the server's requirement for $HOSTNAME to match the cluster interface IP in /etc/hosts file, and having no other matches earlier in the host file. (hope that's clear enough) This is important for both PBS and Maui to function properly.

I don't think that's sufficient, though. It appears to be that PBS is
doing a gethostbyname() instead of searching by /etc/nsswitch.conf
ordering (i.e., ignores /etc/hosts).

So while things like "ping pbs_oscar" work fine, "host pbs_oscar" and
similar lookups fail on the clients.
