I have asked supermicro if the incompatibility is just a network card problem. As I say, the distribution seems to install OK, and the machines appear to be fine once installed in all aspects, apart from the networking.
I have also asked them if their motherboards support Fedora Core 2 or 3, but as their site doesn't mention these, so I am guessing they do not. PS. I have changed the subject, in case anyone else has this problem with this motherboard. Thanks again for your help.
