Title: [Oscar-users] RHEL 3 updates and OSCAR 4.1
Hi Richard:

OSCAR 4.1 should work with RHEL3u5, if that is not the case, please let us know.  It will for sure work with our next release (OSCAR 4.2) which will be out soon.

As far as the headnode is concerned, there should be no problem using up2date to update to Update 5 - the tricky part is to get the RPMs and then copy them to /tftpboot/rpm.

I believe up2date has an option of just downloading the RPMs (-d I think), they will then be downloaded to /var/spool/up2date.  So perhaps what you can do is update your current RHEL3 to Update 5 by using the -d flag, run rpm -Uvh on all the downloaded RPMs, copy them to /tftpboot/rpm, and install OSCAR.

You can also consider grabbing the RHEL3u5 ISOs and re-installing your system.

P.S. Update 4 should also be supported, just make sure that you are using the redhat-3as-i386.rpmlist.  As far as I know we just do not support gold (first release, no updates).

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: [Oscar-users] RHEL 3 updates and OSCAR 4.1

Hello:

We are in the process of setting up our first cluster, using OSCAR 4.1
and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.

The OSCAR installation manual says that only Updates 2 and 3 of RHEL 3
are supported, not Update 4. But, using the "up2date" service, we are
currently getting Update 5 on our other RHEL 3 systems.

As we understand the process, we need to have updated the "head" node
to the Update level we want to run, and populated the /tftpboot/rpm/
directory with the RPM files from that Update level, before proceeding
with the installation of client nodes. But, so far, we've been unable
to find a way to obtain a specific Update version, such as Update 3,
or even a definition of exactly what RPM packages comprise a particular
Update version.

Can anyone help us with this problem?

[ Please cc any respones to my email address ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
Because, until tomorrow, I think that I'll only be getting the daily
mailing list archive ]

Thank you,
Richard Fairfield
