If you installed the x windows packages on the head node you can configure vnc or xdmcp and use a client like tight vnc viewer to connect to your desktop on the head. Or use something like exceed or x-mins if you go with xdmcp. Both are freely available for download. Do a Google search. Setting up everything is pretty darned simple. One caveat is that the are both pretty insecure ways to connect. But if your on a secure network it should not be a problem.
