Aaron definitely is the man if you guys want to integrate Flash and SCORM—I'd be glad to contribute in some form as well.

You're very kind, Brooks.

One other thing Aaron, is there anything in the works from ADL or CTC to take advantage of the Flash 8 virtual machine's intrinsic ability to synchronously communicate with _javascript_? Maybe the External Interface API should be brought up on the ADL forum so that the LMS vendors—who sometimes live under rocks—are aware of the capabilities. It would be killer to see an elegant and mature marriage between Flash, LMS and SCORM tool offerings.

I was just thinking about that.  I *had* been using the Flash/_javascript_ Integration Kit for the template I was going to build... until I just read on osflash about the External Interface API.

My main concern is that it's undocumented, which means Big Mac could drop support for it at any time, so E-learning products you build with it could be rendered useless.  That's one reason why I'm hesitant to employ it as a solution that would be reliable from the broad range of perspectives (those of us on this list) AND those large organizations who are depending on the fact that the learning objects we build will still work five years from now (or more).

That said... I'm considering it.  But you won't see ADL advising anything for or against it (or Flash, in general).  ADL has to be pretty neutral on these things.  I'm going to probably try some benchmarking using the External Interface API vs. the Flash/_javascript_ Integration Kit.  Whichever one is faster (and easier to implement) will probably be the way I'll go.

Also... it has to work in the big three browsers (IE 6, Mozilla and Safari).  I can do that with the Kit.  If I can do that with the External Interface, and if it's faster, I could well be swayed.
