I really think this is a good discussion, so I'd like to keep it going if that's ok. :)
"There is no need for an alternative tool, which basically imitates what already exists." Well, to me, one of the great things about the open source version was that people could do things like your MTASC hacks, where you were able to customize the compiler. I know that you will probably continue with wherever Nicolas is going with MTASC, but forking away from Macromedia is definitely going to lose a lot of people. I also liked the debug messages from MTASC much better than the ones from MMC. Another great thing about open source in general is that often there are some really dedicated people (e.g. Nicolas) who are constantly making updates and improvements AND releasing them as soon as possible. Contrast that with a big company that, in general, prioritizes features that will earn them more money, and rolls them up into a release a year away, which they charge $300 for an upgrade. I am doing Flash for commercial work, but we just started our company a few months ago with almost no money. Software is by far the biggest expense for us (probably 80% or more), and MTASC was really a saving grace. -austin Austin Haas Pet Tomato, Inc. http://www.pettomato.com Ralf Bokelberg wrote: > Partly i understand your worries. > But if you really need to write ActionScript, because you are doing it > commercially, you can easily buy a license of Flexbuilder and do so. > There is no need for an alternative tool, which basically imitates what > already exists.
