Aral - good work on moving on to design considerations for OS Flash. It's a great start in principle: reflect the free-form, creative elements of the Flash community but as Carlos points out - it really should retain some element of seriousness.
After all it will be potential new developers visiting the site to evaluate what's on offer. Not to say it is really a major factor, but in the previous version the design was almost invisible (i.e no real design) in a sense. Now that there is a very visible design representing the 'spirit' of OSFlash it feels a litte less professional, a little less serious. I would rate it as a very good attempt at flyer art, but something that doesn't suit something like a developer resource site. It's a little too loud and distracting. It should complement the primary element of the site- the information - not dominate it. I still get what your trying to achieve - visually represent that combination of left and right brain buzzing that the Flash community is all about, and it's great to kick off this discussion. But perhaps something a bit sleeker, smoother and yet still free-form could be very nice. I'm thinking along the lines of translucent fractal patterns across rich gradients and the like. Maybe it makes sense to put out a challenge into the ether for someone to do the usual masthead re-design for OS projects - I'm sure we know plenty of creatives who might be interested in submitting something for consideration? cheers, justin. _______________________________________________ osflash mailing list [email protected] http://osflash.org/mailman/listinfo/osflash_osflash.org
