There has been talk about dropping the patents laws in the EU, which has already happened in poland.. Something which I think is a great step forward.. Lets hope other EU countries will also follow this great example. I can imagine if the entire EU would agree software patents is Bad Thing and drop it completely, I can imagine the advantage of the EU would be so big, that the US(tm) would have no other choice than do the same thing..
