Reading code in a language you know but which is using different style 
you're used too is same as hearing your native language spoken with a 
perceptible accent. It's a bit confusing but you can understand it and 
you'll get quickly used to it, eventually changing your own way of 
speaking...

I would not call such rules "conventions" since conventions are shared 
by the largest number, hence could be enforced by the compiler without 
anoying anyone. {
        They are just "local accent",
        syntactic styles.
