Although I'm currently a full-time Windows XP user, I've used Flash on
Windows in a virtual machine (virtual box) which ran on Gentoo and later
Ubuntu for many years and was extremely happy with the performance. It was
the best of both worlds.

Also, regarding this figure:
fyi, os installed on desktops:
linux = 0.69%

How many of these folks are actually designers?

I would argue that Adobe is focusing their Flash IDE initiatives toward the
design community and letting Flex (and it's open SDK) satiate the
developers.

I like where Adobe's going. Given the current landscape, it makes a lot of
sense to me.
