must ? well before answering, I think you got it all wrong you don't specify how something must work and then try to shoe horn your spec inside flash you have to write your spec for flash > 1) read the WMI from Flash. WMI is specific to windows, why on earth would you want to read WMI from flash when you can read FLV which will work by default and on any platform running flash (Win/OSX/Linux) ? worst WMI is specific to Windows Media Player, if your user doesn't have the right WMP (with the right codec) installed your WMI will not play did I say that M$ dropped long time ago the support for WMI playback on Mac ? anyway there is NO WAY you can play WMI from Flash in a browser, at worst you can establish a JS bridge between flash and the WMP ActiveX but this would be really stupid as it will only play on Windows... use FLV, ditch WMI > > 2) read/write registry from Flash from a browser ? NO WAY never gonna happen, ever this is a HIGH security issue, even with Java or a custom ActiveX first user would have to accept to install your custom plugin and then accept to run it, and good luck with that nobody in his right mind will install a custom ActiveX from the net now I'm really curious WHY a web site would like to change the windows registry ? > > 3) Read/Write local files from Flash > no, again security issue at worst you can use FileReference to download a file from a server and have the user pick the place where he want to save it. > The flash is website based, not running on the local machine from a local > file. > > Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! > you can do 1) 2) and 3) using mdm Zinc you can do 3) from AIR (or any other flash projector wrapper..) and that's it but this would require a local executable installation and that's normal all you're asking will NEVER be doable from a browser I still can not believe that people could be that clueless about security or maybe it is a joke ? zwetan _______________________________________________ osflash mailing list [email protected] http://osflash.org/mailman/listinfo/osflash_osflash.org
