It *all* depends upon the context. The OSG uses templates everywhere already, many written by me, so templates certainly a non goer for the OSG. Templates aren't free in terms of code maintenance, build and portability. One should use them where really are justified, but you'll always find me being cautious around templates to make sure they are justified because they can be one of the most problematic elements in porting and maintaining C++ across platforms. If Neil can come up with a scheme that ports well, is easy to maintain and provides a good solution for making the NodeVisitor more reusable then this may well be a good case for templates. Without seeing any code I can't make any judgement call though.
