Yes, the difference suggests that the specular component is not being obeyed in 
the new version of the plugin, but I also think a couple of the triangles 
around the top edge look oddly shaded.
The question is, why does the the old version of the 3DS plugin render the 
model differently from the new one? 
I'm not sure why you want me to set specular component. Do you just want to 
confirm if that's what is failing to be applied by the new plugin for some 
reason?  I can certainly investigate that if it helps.
