I didn't implement Text3D so I'm a bit cold on the implementation details. I've just looked up the implementation and it looks like the freetype's plugin used of DrawArrays and osgUtil::Tesselator may well be the culprit. Perhaps a simply test would be to have the freetype plugin run various optimization passes over the geometry to fix these issues. I have a number of other pending submissions to handle so can't look into this further right now, so if you feel curious then please dive in.
