it was the simplest solution to get things compiling ;-) There are two
main-problems for GL ES:

1.) the diverse options for glPixelStore, only a small subset is
supported on OpenGL ES
2.) Open GL ES 1.1 (and IMHO 2.0) does not support 1D-, 3D-textures nor
2D_PROXY_TEXTURES, so I disabled these codepaths. It does not make sense
to offer routines to build mipmaps for texture-targets which are not
available ...

I have no experience with GL3/4 and no knowledge what features are
available.
