Indeed, unfortunately some people preferred to build (ugly) workarounds
in the PLIB branch - for features that are available in the OSG-based
tree right out of the box. This has been wasting quite some resources
that likely would have been suitable to add the missing features to the
OSG version.
So in the end some backwards-oriented people decided to build a PLIB-
based release - coupled with the promise to stop development of the
PLIB-branch right after the release and instead focusing on the
OSG-basead HEAD now.
Actually the FlightGear/OSG runs extremely stable, it just misses a few
features but (as you already knew :-) On the other hand Flightgear/OSG
offers some nice effects that would never had been possible with PLIB
and which brought us quite some recognition when being displayed on
public shows.
