Hi Robert, I totally agree with dropping support for non-geospecific data in osgdem/VPB if it makes life easier on you and keeps the code simpler. The suite of GDAL tools is easy to use and users should be using them to process the geospatial data instead of expecting OpenSceneGraph to do the work of gdal_translate and gdalwarp out of the box.
