I am almost certainly disk bound as I just have a standard 500Mb 7200rpm disk. I could go for RAID, but this would just suck more energy for little useful (to me) difference in performance. When the SSD's come down in price and smooth out their performance envelopes I'll purchase one. Another aspect of the the new quad core system consumes only about 60% of the energy of my old quad system that was slower - the motherboard, CPU and memory of the new system are all better in the energy efficiency. Just need the graphics card manufactures to sort out their energy consumption issues now.
