OK, that explains the error. I do have a set of changes that should fix this issue on svn/trunk, but have been concentrating on getting the OSG-2.8 stable as possible. I have just checked out the rc4 and it does look like it's correctly sourced from the OSG-2.8 branch so it should work fine for you.
