The only thing I can add at this point is small suggestions like checking version. I suspect the problems in your case steam from issues with the View not automatically being purged of all of it's data that relate to it being part of a viewer and attached to a graphics window. CompositeViewer wasn't originally written with the usage model of adding/removing views at dynamically, it should be possible to get it to work but it may well be that parts of the implementation would need further work, specially what this might be I can't comment on at this point.
