It would probably be worth checking about how up to date the subversion version we have on the serve is. My client version of subversion I pulled in from Kubuntu 14.04 respositories: $ svn --version svn, version 1.8.8 (r1568071) compiled Feb 24 2014, 10:11:25 on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Robert.
