You can download the kubuntu (my Linux of choice) live CD distro that 
boots straight off the CD and gives you a working Linux in minutes. But 
without a ext2/ext3 formatted harddrive you probably won't be able to 
download and build OSG.
Another option would be to get a USB or Firewire external harddrive, and 
if your BIOS is modern enough, boot off that. You can get Linux distros 
designed for booting from USB devices without affecting any other part of 
the system.
Finally, there is the old-school method of whipping out the old Windows 
disk, replacing it with a shiny new one, and installing Linux to that. 
Then when you're done, swap them back round. I hope you've got your 
screwdriver handy though!
