Oh, it was probably me mentioning the work of my former colleague Pablo from VRlab. He did manage to render around 100 000 people. Why it is not in OSG - well, elementary dear Watson - the code is proprietary and didn't use OSG. And no - it wouldn't work for rendering trees - you know, humans have nasty properties like the need to deal with skeletons, keyframes and specific animation issues which you do not have with trees (and which have other issues not present with humans).
