I don't think this was a problem in the 1.0 release because I've been using it for quite a while. But when I recently downloaded the 1.1 release, I did see the same problem you are describing. I tried some of the same things you tried with the same results (although I never did get the viewer to actually come up).

I have attached the notify output from the viewer, the stripification in the 3ds plugin was disabled when I generated this. Furthermore, I have noticed that the 3ds plugin is using a local copy of an old version of the lib3ds library. Is there a reason for this? The current version is 1.2, the version included in the plugin is 1.1. Why is this not an external dependency, same as e.g. Coin or libpng?
