I tried out the SharedStateManager's different modes by switching it on the osgDB registry. It did result in some pretty decent speed increases. Unfortunately, my method of synthetically generating PagedLOD tiles seems to be confusing the shared state manager, as it decided that every one of my terrain tiles use the exact same texture and replicated the first tile's texture across the entire landscape. ;)

  This happened in all three sharing modes (TEXTURE, STATESETS and ALL).

I'll need to dig in and see what it thinks is going on, and how to enlighten it to avoid the problem. Thanks for the info, everyone.
