What performance do you get when running the osglightpoint example? With vsync off I get 560Hz with the osglightpoint example.
I forgeot to mention the osglightpoint example creates a grid of 100 by 100 light points, which means its handling 10,000 light points at 560Hz, so certainly no performance issues there.
