we'll start a different thread for that.

My own OSG needs/goals are:

Job satisfaction - its fun learning new stuff, writing good code that is useful to others and helping out others.

Income security - its fun being able to pay the mortgage and bills without worry!

Then there are the wider world issues, such as global warming, and more local issues of positive development of technology.

Efficiency - we should learn to write programs that achieve their goals with minimum impact on the environment, that means
allowing CPU's and GPU's to as lightly loaded as we can achieve, allowing them to throttle back and run at lower
speeds/voltages, and to enable users to use low power technologies rather than top of range power guzzlers.

Positive development  - we should enable more programmers to utilise open, standard based, cross platform technologies more
easily, and to allow them avoid dangers of vendor lock-in of that many proprietary technologies seek to achieve.  Standards and
Freedom is what inspires and delivers long term progress.

The OSG has already delivered on all four of these, but there is still much left to do.  Much of the software industry doesn't yet embrace the last two points, which is something that really needs to change, there are many positive signs out there, but there are also many negatives that still need to be overcome.  I believe the OSG software and its community can help and make a positive impact to these, both by improving the OSG software itself, and also spreading its wings further to help more developers.

So this is a little of bit of philosophical viewpoint. I'll leave practicalities to separate emails.

Robert.
