I think that the "smoke and mirrors" Neil mentions are the "customer
stereo" drivers by nVidia which simulate stereoscopic image on
non-Quadro cards, without using quad buffering (as nothing else than
Quadro supports this). The application doesn't know anything about the
rendering being in stereo, everything is just a driver hack.

We have these with the eMagin Z800 HMD and the drivers are notoriously
fragile and buggy - one application works, another works but mono only
and yet another crashes and even hangs Windows :( Not to mention the
royal pain of finding a working combination of a regular driver and the
"customer stereo" driver - only certain combinations of versions work,
the others give all kinds of weird errors or just do not work at all.

If this is the case, the solution is either to switch to anaglyphic
rendering or tell them to get a graphic card supporting stereo properly
(Quadro or FireGL). Another option is dual output from a regular GeForce
and a converter, such as the boxes made by Cyviz. The "customer stereo"
is utmost junk.

Regards,

Jan
