I need to generate some high resolution snapshots of an OSG scene and I am looking for ideas!

 

The current technique I use is limited to the screen resolution. I am considering replacing this with a CameraNode and an attached FBO/pbuffer etc. Can anyone give me any guidance on the limitations on resolution I can expect using this method. I am assuming I can decouple it from the current rendering windows pixel dimensions. But how do I find out the maximum sizes I can use?

 

Does anyone have any other different ideas about how I can go about this? I suppose a ray tracing interface would be too much to hope for, especially given the limitation below!

 

A potential problem is that my scene contains a dynamically generated CLOD node that does its own culling and drawing.
