Hi Robert, and OSGers

Proposal of an osg-build mailing list:

If they keep the "one click" (one 'make') concept to build the whole OSG, yes !
Not having those configure scripts or this scons hell is so great :)

Proposal of a osg-???? volunteer mailing list:

osg-staff ?
I've always been thinking "wow I'd really like to have one of those badges with 'staff' written on them so I could visit the backstage and have free beers with the singers"

Disucssion and developer and user mailing lists:

Having two lists osg-devel and osg-users could break (or lessen the strength of) the phenomenon you describe: the promotion from user to developer, and the general involvement of lambda users in the project. I think everybody benefits from reading the threads that do not directly concern them, not even mentioning subjects that cover both areas. Plus, we are all developers in a general sense ...
I like the way topics are opened to everyone - and also the incredible patience and kind attitude of the projects founders and active members - and it makes the OSG even more special among the crowd of open source projects.

Forums vs mailing lists vs both

I feel like having a forum could produce more nasty effects than advantages:
- dispatch the information
- duplicate the information
- force the "osg-staff" (I like that one) to create a synchronization mechanism, which will end up being another project in itself (with a mailing list and/or a forum ?)
- make stupid avatars, signatures and "races for the post count" pop up everywhere :)

I think the act of posting to a mailing list is less irrelevant than posting a comment on a forum, so the resulting information is more accurate. Forums threads tend to end in one-to-one discussions, mailing lists are more open.

Remembering the initial topic on the list, one feature that would really be interesting is a search engine ... The archives on openscenegraph.org/archiver/osg-users/ are not very well accessible. So having an improved search engine on those would be a good idea.

Happy coding to all
