Brad,

Looks like I need to upgrade from OSG 1.1 to 1.2 to be able to do this.
But, if it gives me the ability to attach textures to the light points then
it sounds worth it.

Farshid,

All you have to do is call ->setPointSprite() on your LightPointNode.
This will enable point sprites.  You will have to attach a texture to the
LightPointNode as well.  Look at any of the point sprite examples.
