I observed the bug with official OSG1.2 release

Change from vertex array to display list did reveal a difference - no
display list the surface is red, with display list blue. This OSG
code is solid and nothing in this example suggests an OSG bug to me,
its more a case of problem data in undefined data results out - your
shouldn't use both a colour array and the vertex attribute array as
they can overlap. I believe the exact behavior is vendor/driver
dependent. See OpenGL docs on the vertex attri exetension.

My advice is to use one or other but not both.

'Vertex Attribute Aliasing' explains the issue. I've thought that such a thing might be going on but dismissed the idea (too early obviously) because of changing behaviour with display lists.

The CVS version of OSG that did not work me is from today. I've made
frish checkout and recompile.

Now this might be a real problem.. The lack of visual, did this occur
under Windows or Linux? What colour depth is your machines set up
for? What OSG examples have you tried?

Could you try and report back the results of:

// by default wll use the new osgViewer library.
  osgviewer cow.osg

  // revert to osgProducer implementation
  osgviewer cow.osg --osgProducer

Today I've made an update from CVS and tried the osgviewer under
GF7900 GTX , Suse9.3 , NV Driver 97.46 , bitdepth 16

osgviewer cow.osg
Error: Not able to create requested visual.
GraphicsWindow has not been created successfully.
Viewer::realize() - failed to set up any windows

osgviewer cow.osg --osgProducer
osgviewer: osgviewer: unrecognized option --osgProducer

Note: "osgproducerviewer cow.osg" works
