  Iran seeks Russian arms technology

Iran's military is seeking to purchase advanced Russian artillery fire
control systems, according to the Russian AVN news service.

The Iranians want to buy the Kapustnik-B automated artillery fire
control system, said Nikolai Kokoshkin, director of the company that
makes the systems.

The Kapustnik-B system was shown to Iranian military officials in
September. "The demonstration was attended by representatives of the
army. And they expressed their interest towards the system," Kokoshkin
said.

The two nations have signed an agreement that will lead to a
demonstration of the system in Iran. "The Iranian side expressed its
wish to visit Kovrov to test the system at our firing-range,"
Kokoshkin said.

The Kapustnik-B system boosts the capability of artillery systems and
multiple-rocket launcher systems by some 20 to 30 percent and
increases accuracy by 10 percent.

The system also allows artillery to be deployed much more rapidly. It
is made up of two vehicles: a command-post vehicle and an artillery
battery commanding officer vehicle, based on the armored Ural truck,
as well as optical reconnaissance and computer data processing means.
