Fascinating article - I forwarded onto a number of other family and colleagues.
Thanks for the link.

I'm in Brisbane this week where the G20 leaders summit is about to start.
Looking at their agenda, one thing I wonder about is whether our world leaders
really get this... they continue to focus on old-style goals like 'growing the
economy at 2% above current plans'. Nothing on climate change (although after
heavy pressure Australia's PM has just reluctantly agreed to put 1 paragraph
(!) on climate change in the final communique).

I think decentralisation is likely to be much deeper a characteristic than just
corporations. Post WWII there were 51 countries - now 193 (UN) and rising. Many
countries continue to splinter, struggling to hold together within traditional
boundaries. Democracy as a process of party powers is not enabling the basic
needs of vast numbers of citizens, and thus throwing up large numbers of new
parties and independent candidates (or going the other way, resulting in
'virtual democracy' with autocracy and oppression under the veneer of
elections). I think it likely the impact of 'the age of failure' on societal
institutions will actually be on the hundreds of millions of people and
probably billions.

Dan – You surely nailed it! I was just about to write a sort of “explanatory
note,” but I think you just did it much better than I ever could. Thank you!
And for those of you who didn’t read this article --- try it. If English isn’t
your primary, don’t worry too much. The language is quite simple. The thoughts
and implications are deep. Harrison Winter Address7808 River Falls

Some interesting quotes from the article, Welcome to the Failure Age...

"The only way to harness this new age of failure is to learn how to bounce back
from disaster and create the societal institutions that help us do so. The real
question is whether we’re up for the challenge."

"in a time of constant change, it’s hard for us to predict the skills that we
will need in the future. "

"...start-ups like Uber and Kickstarter are harbingers of a much larger shift,
in which loose groupings of individuals will perform functions that were once
the domain of larger corporations. “If you had to know one thing that will
explain the next 20 years, that’s the key idea: We are moving toward a period
of decentralization.”

"...the changes will inevitably become greater, and the results will be
drastic. ... The lives of tens of millions of people will change."

"....many of us will be forced to experiment with several careers, frequently
changing course as the market demands, and not always succeeding in our new
efforts. "

"...Our own personal reputations will now matter more, and they will be far
more self-made. ... It will be harder to explain what you do for a living to
acquaintances. The advice of mentors, whose wisdom is ascribed to a passing
age, will mean less and less."
