Hi Susan: I have had good experiences mixing youth and adults at OS events. In general, the youth appreciate being able to set an agenda that reflects their interests, and there is usually a strong sense that their voices have been heard in a way that they have never been before.
I would not put any conditions on the event, such as "youth only" sessions. On the other hand I wouldn't stop anyone from posting a session and declaring that they wanted it to be "youth only." On the OTHER hand (I knew that third hand would come in handy one day!) I wouldn't stop an adult from attending a designated "youth only" session either. You see where I am going with this of course. Trust the wisdom of those in the group, and they will find a solution. Youth and OST is a great mix, you hardly have to explain anything to them about the process. Just be prepared to be surprised. It is true always and even more so with youth.
